All martial arts instructors at U.S. Tae Kwon Do Center in Honolulu, HI are trained to ensure that our martial arts classes are safe, effective and fun.
Our martial arts Honolulu instructors and instructor assistants are all required to complete an intensive martial arts leadership training prior to teaching or assisting in the classroom. During these martial arts training classes, the focus is on more than just teaching martial arts skills. Instructors also learn how to work with all students, tailoring their martial arts teaching methods to fit the individual child. Emphasis is put on encouragement and positive correction.

Our martial arts instructors are committed to teaching the physical skills of martial arts while applying attitude-shaping exercises aimed at bringing out the best character and physical potential in each student. Through weekly martial arts training, instructors advance their own martial art and educational knowledge to become even more effective martial arts teachers.
The Honolulu Martial Arts instructors are required to maintain their personal level of martial arts knowledge. They are expected to take class on a regular basis and test at least once per year.

Master Dae Sung Lee - Master Instructor
Master Dae Sung Lee was born in South Korea and moved to Hawaii in 1971. He studied Taekwondo from the age of 11 and worked his way up to a 6th Degree black belt. He graduated from Moanalua High School and obtained a degree from the University of Hawaii. He is a nine time US National Champion and has won four gold medals in the Pan American Taekwondo Championships. In 1987, the first introduction of the Pan American Games, he took home a gold medal. He went to 5 world championships from 1979 to 1987 and won 1 silver and 3 bronze.
Master Lee later did Olympic coaching for the United States. He was an assistant coach in the 1988 and 1992 Summer Olympics. He was also head coach of the Colorado Springs Taekwondo training center from 1988 to 1993. He served as a technical coach for the 2000 Summer Olympics.
Master Lee has operated the Taekwondo Center in Aina Haina since July 6,1993, and has trained over ten thousand students. He continues to train students and is passionate for what he does. He is well respected by his students and returns to them the same respect.
Since the late 80's, he has spent much time training athletes in China as well. In 1989, he trained 16 athletes for 3 weeks at the University of Physical Education in Beijing. In 1998, he went back to the University with Master Tim Connolly for 2 weeks for a coaching seminar to train the Chinese Taekwondo team. In 1999, USTU signed the sister/brothership with the CTA (Chinese Taekwondo Association).
In 2007, the CTA invited Master Dae Sung Lee to be the head coach of the women's Taekwondo team for the World Championships that was held in June. The World Taekwondo Championships are one of the three highest levels of competition in the world along with the World Cup and the Olympic Games. This was a huge opportunity for Master Lee and he accepted their offer. He proved to be a great coach and trained the team for a vigorous 7 weeks. In the end, China came in second in the world! They took home 2 gold and 1 bronze. Due to the phenomenal results, Master Lee was asked to be a 2008 Beijing Olympic Taekwondo coach for China for both the men and women's divisions.
Master Lee accepted the offer to be China's Olympic coach and departed for China in August 2007 for one year. He will be returning to his school in Aina Haina every three months for the belt testings. Though he will be greatly missed, he has all the support and encouragement from his staff and students.
